The end of the campaign…..

Today marks the end of the first chapter of the most competitive and important challenge that I have ever faced. This challenge, becoming a student on the Groveport Madison Local School District’s board of education.

Now, I begin chapter two, titled “Aftermath”. In January, I announced publicly my campaign for the Groveport School Board, and the response ended up HUGE! Literally hundreds of people contacted me via email, social networking, telephone, and in person. These people included many teachers, new and old, as well as the District Superintendent Mr. Scott McKenzie. It meant the world to me to know that many from my own senior class made it known that they were going to vote for the first time in their lives, and they were going to be voting for ME!

In August 2009, I made the ballot and became the first Groveport “Attending Student” to make the ballot for this position. After many unfortunate circumstances, some of which we still don’t know, I was removed from the ballot. Still, I continued to pursue this important task and decided to run as a write-in. I campaigned locally in small forms, attending different school sponsored events, and posting blogs, Twitter updates, and more. This chapter was called “The Write-In”

The competitor inside of me sometimes makes it difficult to call it quits, but we cannot all win, can we? It is with great respect towards the District of Groveport Madison, the current school board, the current candidates, and of course my fellow staff/students/families of the district that have supported me all of the way, that I announce today the suspension of my campaign.

The time has now come, to move on and make sure that the students of the Groveport Madison District have a board member elected who is active in the district. A person who has a past in leadership, and authority positions in the district. Over the last few weeks I have met with board candidates, and I know just the lady for the job. Her name is Nancy Gillespie and I am officially endorsing her. On election day, please vote Nancy for GM School Board.  The two of us do have the large disagreement in the overall structure of the district’s need for more money. I prom-ised that I would never approve of a levy while on the board, and I STILL am against them. However, none of the other candidates are active in the field of education at Groveport Madison. She is at the high school nearly every single day, and helps teachers, not as a volunteer, but as an educator.  I wish the best of luck to Mrs. Gillespie next month.

In closing, I would like to thank the following people; My parents, my grandmother and grandfather, Ms. Jeanine Sims-Kelley, Ms. Brenda Sims, Mr. Scott McKenzie, many families and friends from the Groveport Marching band, and my numerous senior supporters “you all know who you are”. Thank you all so much, may God Bless you, and may God Bless America.

-Aaron J. England

Proud to be a part….

This past Saturday, I was fortunate enough to participate in the 2009 GMHS Marching band as we went to competition at Teays Valley HS. I am pleased to announce that the band earned straight I’s or superior ratings, and that the marching band qualified for Ohio State Marching Band Finals for the 20th straight season.

Come on out this Friday on senior night to see the amazing GMHS Band!
